THE Sugbu Mighty Dragons topped the 200-meter women’s half-boat category in the 2nd Kagayhaan Gold Cup-Dragonboat competition at the Cagayan River, Liceo Portside in Cagayan de Oro City yesterday.
The Dragons clocked 1 minute 5.84 seconds to win gold medal over hometown bets Liceo de Cagayan University-B who finished in 1:07.97 for a silver medal.
Speed Devilz took the bronze medal with a time of 1:09.96.
Before the gold medal win, the Cebu-based Dragons (3:1.66) placed second to Liceo de Cagayan University-A (2:59.30) in the 500m women’s half-boat category.
Liceo B (3:06.54) wound up third.
The Dragons was led by team captain Arnold Guinocor and was coached by Jimmy Petilo of the Philippine Air Force.
The team comprised drummer Arianne Montillano, steermen Guinocor and TJ Camacho, and paddlers Killiaen Ferrer, Jade Abellana, Haide Acuña, Cora Quiamco, Remia Buenacosa, Joy Hortizano, Michelle Malicay, Hyra dela Cruz, Kareen Benavides, Jean Bolano and Grace Ferrer.
It was the same team that won at the Sandugo Dragonboat Festival 2017 in Bohol last month.
The Sugbu Mighty Dragons was formerly known as Gruppo Habagat Dragonboat Team.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Accessible Disability Services (Pads) Adaptive Dragonboat Team (2:27.57) won bronze medal in the 500m mixed category. (RSC)
