THE 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medalist Mary Joy Tabal got a warm welcome from the Cebuanos on her arrival here Friday, August 25, after a victory in the women’s marathon event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Tabal gave the country the first gold in 29th SEA Games last August 19, clocking 2 hours 48 minutes and 26 seconds in the 42-kilometer race.
Tabal of Motor Ace Kawasaki Team was warmly welcomed by the Cebuano fans and supporters.
Her team spearheaded a welcome party at Ssangyong Showroom in Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City, with guests Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo, Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) Chairman Edward Hayco, Motor Ace president Jonel Borromeo, among others.
“I’m very thankful and happy with the support from the Cebuanos. If not because of your support I’m not gonna get where I am,” Tabal said.
The Cebu City Government will shell out P500,000 cash incentive as a refund on some of her expenses in the 29th Sea Games.
Guardo, the deputy mayor for sports, has authored a resolution for Tabal’s cash incentive.
