A NEW-LOOK Davao Aguilas FC takes on home club Global Cebu FC in the last meeting of both clubs in the Philippines Football League (PFL) season at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

Davao Aguilas FC is now bannered by local stars James and Phil Younghusband along with veterans Angel Guirado, Simone Rota, Jason De Jong and former Global Cebu FC player Matt Hartmann.

"This is our fourth and final fixture for the season. As we played earlier, we're pretty much a new team, we're still discovering our qualities. At the end of the day, it comes down to the team that makes least mistakes in the least dangerous areas. It's going to be the deciding factor. But having said that, both teams have quality players. It's not a reason that any individual can't win a game," said Davao Aguilas FC head coach Gary Phillips.

Davao Aguilas FC signed the Younghusband brothers in a move that could change the direction of the club, composed mostly of promising young players, in the future.

"The club Davao, the coaches have been very welcoming, making it an easier transition. We went to Malaysia and got to really know the players on and off the field. Of course we were with Meralco for six years, we have teammates back there, still with us in the national team. But we are looking forward to the future. As coach said it, what attracted me and my brother (Phil) was the longterm plan of Davao and being mentors to the young players and we want to be part of that, me and my brother," said James, who recently made the match-tying header in the Azkals Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup Qualifiers match against Yemen.

Global Cebu FC faced the Younghusband-led Davao Aguilas FC last Saturday at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.

"They played us three days ago. This is going to be a different game. They used a different formation. We'll see tomorrow," said Global Cebu FC striker Rufo Sanchez, one of the club’s acquisitions in the transfer window.

Global Cebu lost some key players in the transfer window. Aside from Hartmann and Nick O'Donell to Davao, Global Cebu FC also let go of fan-favorite Shu Sasaki.

Globla Cebu FC hasn’t won a match since beating Ilocos United FC last Aug. 5. The Cebuano side lost two and drew two in a span of over a month.

"So we have to go there tomorrow (today), do our best and play according to how we want to play," said Global Cebu FC coach Akbar Nawas.

Global Cebu FC is currently at third with 30 points behind league leader FC Meralco Manila and Kaya FC-Makati.

Davao Aguilas FC, on the other hand, is at seventh place with six points. (EKA)
