THE University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors reigned in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) swimming competition in the Cebu City Sports Center swimming pool yesterday.

The USC tankers won both the men’s and women’s titles. The men’s squad racked up a total of 10 gold medals, nine silvers and eight bronzes.

The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters placed second with 9-7-3 gold-silver-bronze tally, while University of Visayas (UV) Green Lancers were at third place with 1-1-5.

The USC women’s team dominated the competition as they finished with a 12-3-3 medal haul. The UV women’s team was in distant second with five silvers.

In the secondary division, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles collected 13-6-3 to rule the boys’ class. USC settled for second place with 2-8-5, while UC garnered 1-2-6 for third place.

UC had something to celebrate as they topped the secondary girls’ with 10-7-6. USC finished second with 3-1-3 and SHS-AdC was third with 4-9-5.

Johann Matthew Tubesa of SHS-AdC and Junvic Tiro of UC got some of the spotlight as they separately broke decade-standing records.

Tubesa erased the 16-year-old 200-meter backstroke boys’ record of Andrei Ynclino (2:32.31). Tubesa clocked 2:32.30 to take the new record and the gold medal.

Giovanni Seth Gealon (2:35.39) bagged silver medal and Joel Martin Tubesa (2:44:00) snag bronze medal.

Junvic Tiro of UC also had his own moment as he reset the 50m men's’ breastroke record to 32.51, erasing the 14-year-old 32.81 record of Andrew Dequina.

Tiro bagged the gold medal, Ruliben Deligero (32.97) got the silver medal and Cynthjune Goden (34.00) settled for the bronze medal. (RSC)
