“It feels weird to be celebrating our anniversary without Boy. The Boy “Chessmoso” Pestaño Open is our way of recognizing his valuable contribution to Cepca as well as the entire chess community in Cebu,” Maratas said in a meeting with the press last Wednesday evening.

The tournament is supported by the Pestaño Family, who are glad for the honor given to the late family member.

Pestaño, who wrote a chess column for SunStar Cebu and Superbalita, was the press relations officer and chairman of membership committee at the time of his death last May.

“We’re naming our regular anniversary tournament as our tribute to the venerable heart and soul of Cepca. Boy may be gone but through this, he will be remembered and his legacy will be cemented,” added Maratas.
