IT’S a go for the holding of the 2017 Philippine National Games to be co-hosted by Cebu City and the Province of Cebu on Dec. 10 to 16.
Of the 21 events scheduled to be played, 10 will be held in Cebu City, nine to be dispersed to the towns in Cebu Province, while two will be held in Manila.
Last Wednesday, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Ramon Fernandez met with Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and councilors Jerry Guardo and Eugenio Gabuya Jr. to discuss the final details of the hosting, which will give Cebu City the chance to regain its glory in the national sporting meet.
Cebu City won the overall title on its last hosting of the event, which was 20 years ago.
Now that it is back, Cebu will gather all its best athletes, who are either playing in the national team or in the collegiate level to come up with the best squad that will win the top cash reward.
The two events that will be held in Manila are gymnastics and rugby football.
Guardo added that as a reward for the hosting of the PNG, the PSC will leave behind sports equipment worth at least P10 million to the care of the Cebu City government to be used for its sports development programs. (RCM)
