SIX teams will battle it out in the Cebu City Invitational Basketball Tournament - Sinulog Cup on Jan. 7 to 12 at the Cebu Coliseum.
The six-day invitational features four Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate teams and two visiting teams from Manila.
Defending Cesafi champion University of the Visayas (UV), runner-up University of Cebu (UC), University of San Jose-Recoletos and University of Southern Philippines Foundation comprise the Cebu squads. The visiting Manila teams are UAAP’s National University Bulldogs and PBA D-League’s Marinerong Filipino.
UV recently took home the title of the Asia Pacific University Games basketball tournament with a convincing 92-73 win over University of San Carlos (USC).
UV beat UC, 69-56, in Game 3 to claim back-to-back titles in Cesafi, its first back-to-back championship since its nine-year run.
Marinerong Pinoy just recently picked second in PBA D-League draft and took Fil-Am Kyle Toth. They also picked University of the East’s Alvin Pasaol, De La Salle University’s Abu Tratter nd Ateneo de Manila University’s Vince Tolentino in the same draft.
The winning team takes home a P75,000 cash prize, second place wins P50,000, third place gets P30,000, while 4th place wins P10,000. (EKA)
