NINE dragon boat teams from Visayas region will battle for supremacy in the 2017 BakuNaga Dragon Boat Race at the Boardwalk in the City of Naga this Sunday.
Randy Su of Dragon Boat Cebu Central, the group behind the race, said that they’re expecting teams from Dumaguete City and Tacloban City to join the Cebu-based squads.
The organizers are set with the race but has a backup plan if ever Tropical Depression Urduja will affect the weather condition in City of Naga.
Urduja was located 120 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, as of 10 a.m. yesterday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
“It’s still three days before the race so there’s the possibility that the tropical depression will be out of Visayas by that time,” he said.
Su said that the Philippine Coast Guard will advice them if the weather condition will be suitable for the race.
“If there’s no wind and waves only rain we will go with the race. If there’s strong waves and wind we will have to postpone it on Monday,” he said.
It’s the second time that the Dragon Boat Cebu Central organize a dragon boat race in City of Naga following an exhibition race last October.
“We are highlighting the Boardwalk in City of Naga because it’s really ideal for dragonboat racing,” said Su.
The race will feature 400m open and 400m mixed categories. (RSC)
