ELIAS Joaquino is back to the drawing board after losing to world-ranked Jesse Espinas last Monday night at the Tablon Mini-Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.
Joaquino lost to Espinas by unanimous decision.
According to Brix Flores, his boxer, Joaquino, was dropped in the second round with a right hook. Joaquino, however, knocked down Espinas in the following round with a right straight.
“He got beaten. He was uneasy with Espinas’s power. He still needs more experience,” said Flores of the 26-year-old Joaquino.
Espinas, ranked No. 12 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) as a minimum weight and No. 8 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) as a light flyweight, improved to 18-2 with 11 knockouts, while Joaquino dropped to 12-2-1 with six knockouts.
Joaquino’s teammates at the RWS Gym, meantime, were victorious in the undercard.
Experienced Gerpaul Valero (22-20-4, 16 KOs) stopped Jonathan Francisco (9-8-1, 3 KOs) in seven rounds, while Ian Donaire (3-0, 2 KOs) demolished erstwhile unbeaten Jason Francisco (4-1, 1 KO) in the third round. (EKA)
