ALA Promotions to make sure Nietes unification bout vs. Raul Garcia will be on friendly grounds-A A +A

IT MAY be difficult and costly to hold a world title match between two world champions but ALA Promotions promised to bring the unification bout between World Boxing Organization mini-flyweight king Donnie Nietes and interim champion Raul Garcia in the Philippines in April.
“We are working on it. It’s not easy putting up the fight here,” ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu. “It’s the first time in Philippine history that a world champion faces another world champion.”
Nietes made his last three title defenses in Mexico against Mexicans. He successfully
retained his WBO title in all three fights.
ALA Promotions wants to reward Nietes of his achievement by not letting him defend his crown in hostile territory.
“There is a big possibility that it will be held here,” said the Cebuano promoter.
“It costs a lot to bring the fight to the Philippines. But we will be doing all we can to bring the fight here.”
ALA Promotions will be rivaled by top Mexican promotional outfit Zanfer Promotions in promoting the blockbuster bout.
“Zanfer wants to hold the fight there (in Mexico) and they are targeting April,” Aldeguer said.
If ALA Promotions will win the battle of promoting the Nietes-Garcia fight, Aldeguer is looking at staging the fight either in Cebu City or in Bacolod, Nietes’ hometown.
“If it will be in Cebu, we are looking at Waterfront,” said Aldeguer, who disregarded the possibility of holding the fight in a bigger venue in Manila like the Araneta Coliseum.
“Cebu deserves it. We want to make Cebu the next boxing mecca of Asia.”
Aldeguer also said the fight might be staged on a Sunday morning so that it can be aired live in Mexico on a Saturday evening.
“It might happen on a Sunday morning. Instead of the (Cebuano) people watching boxing on TV on a Sunday morning, they can watch it live.”
