‘I will KO Bautista’-A A +A

ALEJANDRO Barrera came halfway across the globe for only one purpose, and that is to exact his revenge against Filipino slugger Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista by knocking him out in their grudge rematch this Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
“I came here to knock him out,” said the 30-year-old Mexican in a press luncheon yesterday at the Mooon Café in IT Park.
Last August, Barrera lost in a controversial fourth-round technical knockout to Bautista after he suffered a deep cut on his left eyelid, which the officials ruled was due to a legitimate punch and not a headbutt. Barrera and his coach, former Olympian and professional fighter Victor Hugo Correa, felt differently, and thought that the cut was caused by a headbutt. They also believe the fight was stopped prematurely because Barrera was already gaining momentum and was about to knock out the 24-year-old Boholano.
Barrera, who looked in tip-top shape, is confident of ending the bout early and predicted a fifth round knockout.
“I trained hard for this fight. This (knockout) is part of the training,” he said.
Barrera has logged around a hundred rounds of sparring and will be targeting Bautista’s head because he believes that it is the weakness of the former world-title challenger.
“His defense is not great. He has a glass chin,” he said Barrera has been training seriously for this fight and got tips from a familiar face—Bautista’s former tormentor, Daniel Ponce De Leon.
“I sparred with De Leon and I got a lot of feedback from him. I trained hard and I’m ready,” said Barrera, who said De Leon hits harder than Bautista.
Barrera said as of the moment, he is focused solely on this fight but also has huge plans after he beats Bautista. One is a possible world-title shot against interim World Boxing Association super featherweight champion Jorge Solis.
However, if he wins against Bautista, he is willing to come back to the Philippines and give Bautista a trilogy.
“No problem,” answered Barrera with a smile.
