PSC purchases P10M worth of equipment

IT’S now all systems go for the 248 athletes who will compose Team Philippines in the 2010 Asian Games on Dec. 12 to 27 in Guangzhuo, China.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia said they have purchased the equipment needed by the athletes worth at least P10 million. He said most of the equipment will arrive before the end of the month to give them more time to familiarize themsevles with it.

Among those newly-purchased equipment were for bowling, ammunition for the shooters, 550 paddles for dragon boats, taekwondo electronic armor, billiards, cycling and other sports.
Garcia said the new equipment will not be used only for the Asian Games, but also for their preparations for the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
“It’s been a while since we purchased equipment for our athletes. The last time was during the 2005 Sea Games. So, we really need to buy new ones,” added Garcia.
He said aside from the gear, the athletes in diving are continuing their training in China, while two Chinese coaches have been hired for muay-thai.
The RP boxing team will also see action in the Tammer Cup in Finland as part of their preparation.
