Pantino, 13, of the University of San Carlos Basic Education Department (USC-BED), is the top-seeded player in this division. He advanced to the second round via bye.

Payao dethrones WBC champ, ready for big fights

YOUNG Cebuano prospect Jhaleel Payao is relatively unknown in mainstream boxing. But he made a huge statement that he is ready for bigger fights after dethroning World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth super flyweight titleholder Rene Dacquel the other night.

The 21-year-old Payao kept his unbeaten slate clean and became the new WBC Youth champion with a unanimous verdict against Dacquel at the Olivarez Sports Complex in Paranaque City.

CEBU’s running pride Mary Joy Tabal decided to resume her training in Manila until race day instead of coming home to Cebu. The decision was made after the organizers of the 38th National Milo Marathon Finals posted a tentative date for the race.
