I NEVER really liked spaghetti. It probably had something to do with that sour, stale meat sauce that they always splattered on top of the overcooked pasta, but when you’re an elementary kid attending a classmate’s birthday party, you really don’t have much of choice.

I was always partial to that savory salty-sweet accent of a pancit palabok over other carbohydrate offerings, but yes, it always boiled down to choice. And it was frequently not mine to make. It was not my party.
