SWU to field Thai in V-League

MANILA - Cebu champion Southwestern University will bring its act tothe big city as it competes in the seventh Shakey’s V-League nextmonth, confident of creating an impact in its debut in the country’s premierwomen’s volley league at The Arena in San Juan.
The reigning Cebu Schools AthleticFoundation, Inc. champion has enlisted Thai player Piyatada Lasungnernto ensure its competitiveness in the tournament,which features the country’s top varsity teams from Manila-based leagues.

Lasungnern, a mainstay of Thailand’s national team, sawaction in the Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Tournament and the World YouthVolleyball Championships and is expected to bolster SWU’s title bid against anequally-talented field.
Expected to figure prominently in the event are the University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University, Ateneo de Manila University and Adamson University.
Also seeing action in the tournament are St. Benilde and Lyceum andprovincial teams University of St. La Salle-Bacolod and former three-timeCesafi champion University of San Jose-Recoletos.
But the focus will be on SWU, which finished runner-up in therecent CHED National Games and boasts of power-hitters Danika Yolanda Gendrauliand Rafril Aguilar and another guest player.
