Toral: Frugal online shopping

Janette Toral
Digital Filipino

BEFORE Christmas last year, I bought a brand new television set for less than P7,000 at a leading hypermarket chain. Last week, that unit conked out and I’m not sure if it is worth the effort of going through the warranty or repair process.

Buying the branded ones is an option but I don’t think I want to get one that is brand new. An option is to get a second-hand or previously owned unit from one of the online buy-and-sell sites online.

During the Second DigitalFilipino.com Web Awards, TipidPC, a buy-and-sell site, bagged the award for being the best community site. It is definitely a popular destination for online shopping, whether one is looking for brand new or pre-owned computers. Another site that is popular and visible in search engine results for various type of products is Sulit.com.ph.

Today, another marketplace that is gaining popularity is Ayosdito.ph. I tried searching for a second-hand television and found one in our area that is worth P2,000 with a popular brand name and a bigger screen.

I guess there are those like me who want to maximize their limited resources by buying from online buy-and-sell sites like
Ayosdito.ph and Sulit.com.ph. These sites can also be a resource for disposing of old inventory or unused items in the house that may still be of value to others.

Best of all, these sites allow you to list your products for free. Customers are reminded as well not to pay in advance if they don’t personally know the seller as they can’t vouch or verify payments.

So for entrepreneurs, don’t be contented by just having a website. There is no harm posting your products and services through these buy-and-sell sites as they already have traffic, regular visitors, buyers and sellers that you can tap as potential clients. I’m sure these sites will be useful during the holiday season, too.

Catching up with bloggers. In the next five Saturdays, I’ll be visiting various locations to meet bloggers. I’ll start with Bacolod on July 4. Details about it can be found at http://xr.com/bacolod.

I’m quite excited as our activity will be the first big get-together in the said area, much like what we have done with Cebu bloggers last October 2008. Of course, the next stop for the said bloggers meet-up will be in Cebu this July 11.

Dear Ms. Jannette, Good

Dear Ms. Jannette,

Good day!

I believe it was TipidPC who won the best community site in your 2nd DigitalFilipino.com Web Awards. It will be unfair for TipidPC to have Sulit.com.ph in the news as the winner of the award. Technically, Sulit.com.ph was not even part of the event as I, the co-founder of Sulit, was not aware there was a web awards happening.

Hoping for a correction of the article to be fair with TipidPC.

Cheers!
RJ David
