BALIKBAYAN couple Cebuana Baby Capada and her ever-loving hubby Don Smith were in town for ohh-so many reasons, and before they knew it, Don’s red-letter day was just around the corner.
How to celebrate? With the help of Baby’s dear friend, Betty Young and a group from White Collar Inc. (an organization of lady professionals, the Collarites, who are in the “60s”), a carefully planned coup de e’tat (read: as surprise party) was in the making! So secret were the moves, that the unsuspecting Don never had an inkling until he stepped into the Madrid Room of Casino Español, and was met with dim lights and cheers of happy birthday! What could he say?
The "blowing of the cake candles done with," the buffet next and it was sumptuous as only Betty and Baby could have planned it. Another surprise! The White Collarites, still as glamorous as ever, marched onstage, and sang the choreographed birthday song, chorus-line style. The applause was deafening!
Among the guests and Collarites were balikbayans Gemma Sasedor-Burns and Lydio Zamora and wife, Thelma. A foursome from Texas also joined the celeb. Many happy returns, Don! Keep on dancing!

When you turn a revered and respectable 85 and have accomplished what engineer Teodosio "Tuding" P. Creus has in that span of time, indeed, it calls for a celebration! Tuding, as friends call him, has been in the engineering limelight, specifically in the prestigious cement industry as consultant to almost, if not all, cement plants in the country. You name it, Bacnotan, Republic, Apocemco, etc. earning for him the title, “Father of the Cement Industry” in the Philippines!
That evening was also a surprise for Tuding who entered the Victoria Hall of Parklane International Hotel, to a warm and welcoming crowd of well-wishers, headed by his close-knit family.
The mood was jovial, and the ambience was festive, as friends and family partook of the famous Creus hospitality.
Entertainment-wise, there was a bevy of shapely chicks who pranced and pirouetted, as the dance started that evening.
And the best surprise of all: Tuding did try a few cha-cha steps—making him the ever-youthful engineer! Happy 85th, Tuding, and many more to come!
