Without its heart and soul, Mark Jayven Tallo, who got injured in Game 1 CIT was an easy prey for the Baby Lancers as they quickly built a 28-15 lead in the opening period before closing the first half safely ahead, 46-26.
Carlo Jay Figuracion, Franklyn Batiquin, Joseph Aero Nalos and Dan Jason Tejam started to rally the Wildkittens in the third but UV did not slow down and banked on Francisco Arong Jr., Gerald Legarde and Eugene Nuñez.
Arong scored 19, while Legarde and Nuñez had 10 points each.
Batiquin scored the game-high 29 in CIT’s loss.
Meanwhile, USJ-R had a sloppy start before recovering in the end game.
After trailing 19-8, USJ-R gained life in the second but UC still managed to protect a nine point lead, 41-32, at the bend.
June Arthur Go and Clent Muñez started to erupt in the third as their combined 12 points cut UC’s lead to three, 60-57, entering the final period.
With its defense holding down Jorei Marlon Pingoy in the fourth, Muñez and Go continued to wax hot as they led USJ-R’s searing run in the final period.
Muñez finished with 17 points--11 in the fourth--and Go added 12.
On the other hand, the Lion-Tiger Aerosol/University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers grabbed the last ticket to the collegiate semifinal round after beating the UC Webmasters, 71-56, in Game 3 of their quarterfinals last Saturday.
It will be USPF against USJ-R and UV against the University of San Carlos in the semis.
