CEBU Vice GOV. Gre-gorio Sanchez Jr. will tender his resignation as vice chairman of One Cebu party tomorrow, saying the party has not given him importance.
This, however, is only one of the many reasons he will be citing in his letter which he will address to either Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, the party’s chairperson, or Rep. Pablo
John Garcia (Cebu, 3rd district), the secretary general.

Sanchez, however, said he still hasn’t decided whether he would run for governor because he knows that he doesn’t have the machinery compared to that of the governor, who come from a family of lawyers and politicians.
Unlike the Garcias, he said he was an accidental politician and “the only (one) in my family.”
As of yesterday, he said his decision is leaning towards concentrating on his business and that spiritual guidance is needed for his discernment.
He said he never aspired to become a governor, adding that he could have grabbed the chance when it was repeatedly offered to him since 2004 despite the prodding of former Gov. Emilio “Lito” Osmeña. What he did, Sanchez said, was ask Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr. to run against Garcia.
He said that another politician asked him to run in 2007 against Garcia but he declined because he chose to be her running mate instead.
Sanchez said the go-vernor’s words that she had to end their partnership if he runs as governor was “sweet music to his ears.”
He also said he never felt like he was the go-vernor’s partner. Had that been the case, Sanchez said, the governor should have granted his request not to accommodate the Suezos of Tuburan in the party.
“Di diay ta tagaan og gamay nga respesto? It’s hurting on my side. I feel frustrated,” he said, adding that he feels like the governor chose the Suezos over him.
The Suezos, in a separate press conference, said Sanchez is using their entry to One Cebu as an issue to bolt the party.
“I’m confident that we will be welcomed by One Cebu. Wherever Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr. will go after, that is his problem,” Rosemarie said in Bisaya.
Mayor Constancio and Vice Mayor Rosemarie Suezo are confident they will be taking their oath as members of the party within the month.
They revealed this during a joint press conference with officials of the neighboring town of Tabuelan, reiterating their support for the local administration party headed by the governor.
Pablo John joined the officials for lunch but left before the press conference so that his presence would not be given political color.
Both the municipalities of Tuburan and Tabuelan were members of the opposition during the 2007 elections.
The Suezo couple showed the media 54 petitions, signed by the 54 barangay captains and their constituents, manifesting support for the administration of Constancio and Rosemarie. More than 14,000 signatures were gathered.
Tabuelan Mayor Casiano Gerona admitted that he and Sanchez are friends but after the projects he received from Garcia’s administration, he chose to support the group of Garcia.
Gerona lamented that his allies during the 2007 elections, former congressmen Antonio Yapha and Clavel Asas-Martinez, turned their backs against him and his officials.
“After they lost, they totally forgot about us. That’s why we tried to befriend the administration and we believed in what the governor has done,” said Mayor Gerona in Bisaya.
While he admits that the revived opposition group Panaghiusa, led by former senator John Henry Osmeña, are still trying to court old allies, Gerona said they could not turn against the governor because of the projects that Tabuelan has received.
As far as Constancio is concerned, the Suezos’ relationship with Sanchez turned sour because when the mayor asked the vice governor to bridge the gap between Tuburan officials and Governor Garcia, Sanchez allegedly agreed but with a condition—that Sanchez will have a solid 27 barangay captains out of the 54 barangay captains in Tuburan.
Constancio did not oblige, telling Sanchez that he could ask all barangay captains to back the vice governor, as long as there is a united stand. (RSA/JGA)
