HE'S a man, an “extraordinary man.” The way he behaves, his being “mahinhin” (modest), his character, and the way he expresses self makes him extraordinary.

Jeffrey “Jef” Neri, 22, is a graduating nursing student of University of the Visayas, but aside from being a nursing student, He can also do household chores, which also makes him different.

He can cook, with adobo as his specialty; he washes dishes and even clothes, and can clean his family’s house and even their backyard. But his being extraordinary creates a mindset that he has a “wrong” or different sexual orientation.

“Ang uban muingon nga most nursing students daw bayot, (Some say most nursing students are gay).” Jef says. He then admitted that he is very particular and exacting; for some reason, that aspect of himself somehow makes others think he is gay.

Still, we can see from his hair down to his feet how people can mistake him so, but Jef defends himself, “The way you look reflects your personality, that’s what I believe.”

Jef also said that being very particular about how things are done isn’t a basis of being a gay. “I want to break the connotation that once you become a nursing student, you start to become gay.”

Jef added that he just wants everything organized and he never came to the point that he started to become a member of the “third” sex.

“I’m a little perfectionist man gud. Siguro (maybe) that’s one of the reasons why they jugde me like that.”

But Jef said he doesn’t presume to be a perfect human being. “I’m also imperfect, I have lapses and irregularities.” Jef then concludes “Maybe I can’t express verbally what I feel but someday, somehow, nature speaks.” (Tashuana Alemania)
