Tambayan sa Outpost

LAUNCHED mid-this year, the show, “Tambayan sa Outpost” has become a prime-mover for the cultivation of the Cebu music scene, as well as the promotion of the local art.

“Tambayan sa Outpost”, which is aired regularly at RCTV Ch. 36 and can be seen online at http://rctv.com.ph, is a collaborative project of the local artists pool.

Conceptualized by the regular “tambays” of the said restaurant-slash-local music hub located at the foot of Nivel Hills in Lahug, Cebu City, the idea of this show is to bring the “Outpost feel” of music entertainment to different households not just in Cebu but in different parts of the globe as well.

According to The Outpost’s manager and one of the show’s directors, Sandy Kiamko, the show aspires to give newer bands a chance to let their music be heard, and to develop and promote more original music from Cebu. Plus, they want the audience to see the other side of these eclectic musicians.

“In choosing a feature band for the show, one must have original music because we’re here to promote the talent and creativity of the Cebuanos. If possible, we want the band to put an additional twist to their music.” Kiamko said.

For season 1, they already featured a handful of bands with an array of genres from the new and not-so-new generations.

Bands like Cattski, Rescue a Hero, Missing Filemon, The Line Divides, Still, Lowela, Pandora, and Junior Kilat had all shared the spotlight.

With more reasons to be excited for the coming episodes, “Tambayan sa Outpost” had its Season 2 kick-off with an all-time favorite blues band, Cuarenta. Plus, more hard-rocking bands will be performing to rave each episode.

Shooting for “Tambayan sa Outpost” was a fun and learning experience for Jay Young, one of the main people behind the show, who is involved both in the production and editing process.

“It’s a different experience getting to work with various bands and other personalities in the music scene like Kaloy Uypanco, Brian Sacro, Nico Devroe, and others. You get to learn a lot from them on their music and on the other way, the technical side.”

After the success of its season 1, viewers can expect a different look and feel of the show. If they enjoyed the first season, they will definitely love the second with its improved production and sound, more versatile genres from bands, and more trivia from their favorite personalities.

Now running on its second season, this “passion project”, as what they consider it, will be an avenue for different musicians in nurturing their craft. Moreover, Kiamko and Young anticipate that someday, more shows like “Tambayan sa Outpost” will be made to have friendly competition among people that will serve to promote Cebu’s best.
