Dear Cindy,
I’m a junior high school student obsessed with one of the male members of an international boy band. Oftentimes, I’m surfing the Internet for news about their shows and concerts.
I can hear his songs in my head. I dream about him every day. I talk about him to my friends and I have his pictures all over my room. Am I weird?

Dear Kelly,
Having a crush on someone is perfectly normal when celebrities have their own idols.
“Obsessed” and “weird” are strong words to describe what you’re going through.
Everyone goes through that stage in their lives where they go a little crazy over a boy. And age is not an issue here. Having a crush is not the monopoly of the young.
Anyone can idolize anyone anytime. But if the majority of your waking hours are consumed by fantasizing about your idol then some adjustments may have to be made.
Why not prioritize your activities? Complete your most important tasks first, for instance, housework, homework, then use your “celebrity fantasy hours” to relax and unwind.
Use these special hours, too, as your special reward for tasks accomplished.
Check your spending habits, too. Allot expenses for food and other basic necessities first before spending your allowances and/or savings on posters, CDs, stationery, concert tickets and other pop paraphernalia.
Why not turn your admiration around and direct it toward yourself? Set goals and motivate yourself to achieve your wildest dreams. Remember, most major celebrities started out as ordinary citizens. A dose of luck, faith, passion and lots of hard work got them to where they are. If your idol has achieved his dreams, so can you.
And keep those mementos, too. You might want to reminisce about the songs, movies and television shows that made you swoon.
Years from now, you can compare him to your current crush matches up with your former idol. Enjoy and have a great life.
God bless,
Cindy
