Taming the tongue

A VALUE-LADEN tongue will be sought by kings for wisdom and counsel. This week, we must be reminded to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone. Many have sacrificed their lives just to establish peace in the nation, and so that the next generations can live where battle has already been won, and wars have already ceased.

Today, we can contribute to peace by taming our tongues. When we speak what is value-laden, when we talk about what inspires, the places we go will be filled with life. When we continuously allow death through corrupt talk and when we silence the truth, we give unrighteousness the power to steal the peace.

How then can we achieve a value-laden tongue? It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person. Some say, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Others even agree to this: The heart is the most corrupt above all things. It is then the heart that should be guarded for out of it flows the issues of life. When we have pure hearts, we will have pure words. When we have pure words, we will have pure lives. Pure lives are building blocks of a righteous nation. As Values Restoration Officers, we are the voice of God in this nation, we become the carriers of His promise, and we accelerate the fulfillment of each promise by the declarations we make, the prayers we utter, the action plans we resolve to apply so that we become the living examples of transformation.

It is also very important not to be enslaved by anger by allowing our tongues to be used to murder. There was once a selfless leader who said that everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. Those who consider themselves God-fearing and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their love is worthless.

We are Values Restoration Officers, and nation builders. We have been given a sacred instrument, a divine weapon to build the moral infrastructure of this nation---our tongues. Our nation is blessed because our God is the Lord, it is our responsibility to declare blessing and multiplication of what is righteous, and conquer the curses spoken from wicked lips by speaking words that are Spirit and gives life. “Philippines, you are stronger than before! Above all, God is the best, the Philippines is blessed!”
