3rd leg of Philippine Golf Tour at Apo Golf Club

AFTER a poor game of golf, Peter Pineda skipped the clubhouse and started to go home. As he was walking to the parking lot to get his car, a policeman stopped him and asked, "Did you tee off on the sixteenth hole about twenty minutes ago?" "Yes," he responded. "Did you happen to hook your ball so that it went over the trees and off the course?" "Yes, I did. How did you know?" he asked. "Well," said the policeman very seriously, "Your ball flew out onto the highway and crashed through a driver's windshield. The car went out of control, crashing into five other cars and a fire truck. The fire truck couldn't make it to the fire, and the building burned down. So, what are you going to do about it?" Peter thought it over carefully and responded, "I think I will close my stance a little bit, tighten my grip, and lower my right thumb."

If you want to watch the Philippine golf pros in action, today, July 3, is your last chance. Apo Golf and Country Club is the venue of the 3rd leg of the Philippine Golf Tour, made possible by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI). Last year's winner was Marvin Dumandan of Apo Golf Club. In second place was Elmer Salvador. I hope a Davaoeño will win the Davao leg of the golf circuit again this year.

This P1 million event is a 54-hole tournament (3 days), and the first prize is two hundred thousand pesos. The fourth leg is in Pueblo de Oro in Cagayan de Oro and it starts on July 8, and the fifth leg will be at Sherwood Hills, Cavite.

FYI, this year, there are 10 legs in the Philippine Golf Circuit. The first leg was in Malarayat, Batangas, and Danny Zarate won it. Marvin Dumandan finished second. The second leg was at Eagle Ridge and Dumandan finished in first place.

Local favorites: Marvin Dumandan, Tony Lascua, Cassius Casas, Jay Bayron, Ramil Bisera, Elmer Salvador, Elmer Saban, and more.

Top players to watch out for: Juvic Pagunsan, Mars Pucay, Rey Pagunsan, Robert Pactolerin, Cookie Lao, Danny Zarate, Carito Villaroman, Michael Bibat, Erwin Vinluan, Benjie Magada, Richard Sinfuego, Jerome Delariarte, and more. Angelo Que is a no-show.

Some of the amateurs who joined this tournament are Larry Pasquil, Louie Dacudao, Brion James Minoza, Vincent Salvador, Anthony Saban, Ronaldo Sumalinog, Sonny Villaber, Peter Villaber, Dante Becierra, Brent Sumampong, Art Arbole, Dino Villanueva, Zanie Boy Gialon, Alexes Nallos and more.

News for the ladies, the cutest on tour: Cookie Lao. Hahaha! To me, all the golf pros are cute, especially the ones from Davao. Ahem. But Cookie is the cutest.

Come on, people. Let's show our support for the local boys. Let's meet up in the gallery today, July 3, at Apo Golf Club.
