DANGEROUS Drugs Board vice chairman Clarence Paul Oaminal is calling all barangay officials and the Barangay Anti Drug Abuse Council (Badac) to organize and rise up against drugs.
He said the Badac, Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and City Anti-Drug Abuse Council in a number of local government units have not met to discuss the drugs problem.

"The primordial reason for this predicament is the fact that there are barangay officials who are fraternizing with drug pushers and peddlers as these often become their milking cow," Oaminal said in emailed statement.
He said there are also officials who are just plain afraid to tackle the problem and were either replaced or resigned.
"It is ironic that instead of isolating these drug peddlers they have become allies with some officials," Oaminal said.
DDB has organized a structure in barangays called Alsa Batok Droga (Rise Against Drugs), which will serve as a parallel force to Badac.
It is made up of citizens headed by a retired police or military officer. The group's function is to organize and train ordinary citizens in gathering information about drugs and reporting this to authorities.
