Carnap syndicate leader posts P1.4-M bail-A A +A

DAVAO CITY -- Carnap syndicate leader Ryan "Baktin" Yu posted a P1.4-million bail bond before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 27 in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur, on September 11.
The bail bond was imposed against Yu after RTC Branch 16 Davao City Judge Emmanuel Carpio issued warrants of arrest against him for eight counts of carnapping dated July 16 this year.
RTC Branch 27 Judge Edwin Malazarte, however, ordered Yu’s release after he posted a total of P1,440,000 through his bondsman Ricardo Yu. The carnap syndicate leader also issued a written undertaking, which was approved by Malazarte.
In his written undertaking, Yu vowed to present himself in court whenever required but that the trial will proceed even in his absence. He also vowed to surrender himself during the execution of the final judgment.
Asked for comment, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte could not help but respect the move of Yu, since it is his constitutional right to post bail.
"Even if he stole a million motor vehicles and he is charged one million carnapping cases and he has the money to spend for all the charges and put up bail, the constitution allows him," Duterte told reporters on Friday.
The Davao City Police Office filed six charges of carnapping against Yu on November 20, 2012 based on the complaints of Filmore Escobal, Joselito Marces, Napoleon Saliog Jr., Eliazar Macabinlar, Ibrahim Buog and Carlo Asturias.
Two private complainants identified as Delilah Galgala and Aldrich Palados filed their separate complaints before the year ended.
Duterte offered a P5-million reward for the head of Yu, literally. The mayor announced in his Sunday television program "Gikan sa Masa Para sa Masa" last year that he will give P5 million to anyone who could bring the head of Yu in a cooler filled with ice.
The mayor also offered P2 million to anyone who could bring Yu alive and P4 million if he is brought dead. The reward is no longer up for grabs after Yu posted bail. (Sun.Star Davao/Sunnex)
