THE search of the "Entrepreneur of the Year" themed "Shine" by Ernst and Young -- professional service firm in the United States -- now accepts nominations.
In Wednesday's Club 888 forum, Alvin Pinpin, SGV and corporation partner in charge, said: "Filipino entrepreneurs have what it takes to be at par with other entrepreneurs in other countries."
He said there are at least two entrepreneurs from Mindanao included in the list of nominees and this event will not only showcase an entrepreneurs' profitability, but also to show others how a Filipino entrepreneur handle its people, inputs of the business does on specific community and innovations it has generated.
"Every entrepreneur has equal chance of winning," Pinpin noted.
The five categories for this year's award are Master Entrepreneur, Small Business Entrepreneur, Woman Entrepreneur, Tourism Entrepreneur and Social Entrepreneur.
The selection of nominees will be shortlisted from their financial data ranking system and afterwards schedules of interviews will be done along with their contact references that include the entrepreneur's lawyers, auditors, PR firms and more.
Judges are people from the government, academe and the business sector. Their identities are kept confidential until the awards night.
Since its introduction in the Philippines in 2003, the Entrepreneur of the Year program has become one of the most prestigious events for the country's business community.
Since Tony Tan Caktiong, president and CEO of Joliibee Foods Corporation, was awarded the first the Entrepreneur of the Year in the Philippines others followed suit from Visayas and Mindanao.
From Socorro Cancio-Ramos, general manager and founder of National Bookstore in 2004, to Lance Gokongwei, president of Cebu Pacific in 2005; Senen Bacani, chairman and CEO of La Frutera Incorporated in 2006; Wilfredo Steven Uytengsu Jr., president and CEO of Alaska Milk Corporation in 2007; Ambassador Jesus P. Tambunting, chairman and president of Planters Development Bank in 2009.
Last year winner Tennyson Chen, president of Bounty Fresh Foods Inc., completed the line up of the Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines winners to date.
The winner will represent the country in the 2012 World Entrepreneur Awards to be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2012.
Becoming the shining ray of hope and to have dreams that burn with passion, as well as to be a trailblazer that other may follow is what the theme perceives.
"Bringing prestige as an entrepreneur is nominated boost the morale of the business and its people as they are a part of the company, this is a venue to promote public relation, market and positive rating for suppliers and its clientele," Pinpin added.

Road shows and acceptance of nominations will be this April as the nomination closes on May. From June to August, the onsite interview will begin, by September; national finalists will be announced for the awarding ceremony in October 12.
