HEWLETT Packard (HP) Philippines, in partnership with Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), launched Wednesday a phenomenal advocacy against counterfeit and proliferation of fakes.

The commitment of both companies to make the public aware and educate them on identifying the original from the fake led to the advocacy campaign dubbed "No to Fakes. Know the Original".

"The Philippines is one of the countries that is in the watch list because of imported fake products. With our advocacy, we would like to lead, in alliance with BSP, in the battle against fakes," said Charles Vincent Lizares, consumer sales manager of HP Imaging and Printing Corp.

He added that for the duration of four years, there were 20 million units of counterfeit ink cartridges that have been confiscated.

"This is why we have enhanced our security features to avoid the proliferation of counterfeits and we want the public to be aware of how to detect the original HP toner and ink cartridges," Lizares said.

HP Mobile Authentication features a QR code on both HP Original ink and toner cartridges labels. It has a holographic design that verifies its authenticity by tilting the box to see the "OK and check sign".

Customers can also validate its authenticity through their smartphone, by capturing or scanning the QR label and download the application at the HP Mobile Authentication website. If a customer do not have the ability to scan the QR codes, they can simply key in the alpha numeric code printed next to the QR codes shown on the new security label before opening the boxes at the website.

With the launching of BSP's new generation currency, Demetrio Casipong, regional director of BSP, said they have continuously enhanced their notes' security features using modern technology so as not to have syndicates copy them.

HP has enlisted the help of celebrities and personalities in strengthening their advocacy who embodies the advocacy's noble ideals.

Trendsetter Tessa Prieto Valdez and social visionary Bam Aquino were present to show their support to the campaign of HP and BSP.

In educating individuals and businesses of the economic risks of counterfeit goods, they will bolster Filipinos all over the country to unite and proclaim "No to Fake. Know the Original."

HP is set to launch a massive campaign in the following months at Davao City malls which kicked off in Trinoma mall. HP provided posters for all the stores in Trinoma mall echoing their campaign on anti-counterfeits.
