DavSur investments hit P1B

DAVAO del Sur made an impact in 2011 after generating P1.2 billion in investments and increasing its domestic and export sales, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office reported.

Provincial director Engineer Edwin Banquerigo, speaking at the weekly "Kapihan sa PIA" Saturday morning, said last year's accomplishment in investments exceeded their target by 10 percent.

Export sales in the province also hit US$16.542 million in 2011, which also exceeded its target of US$7.75 million and much higher than its 2010 performance of US$11.372 million.

Domestic sales also increased in Davao del Sur last year at P242.561 million, or an increase of 142 percent from the P89.12 million recorded in 2010.

In his accomplishment report, Banquerigo attributed the good performance to various innovative projects and strategies focusing on generating bottomline outcomes undertaken by the DTI provincial office.

Banquerigo said big ticket investments within the Sta. Cruz and Digos City were also big investments and job generators for the province.

"These new projects as well as other existing firms likewise contributed to the increased export sales as well as domestic sales," Banquerigo said in his report.

For 2011, a total of 3,466 jobs were also provided to the residents of Davao del Sur, a big improvement from that of 2010 where 1,108 jobs were created, or an increase of 161 percent.
