THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has launched the immersion freezer, a food processing equipment that will boost global competitiveness of the country's traders.
DOST-Davao Region director Anthony C. Sales said the equipment which is specifically useful to fishery products was launched in Manila last week and costs around P90,000 each.

"They're now ready for transfer," Sales told journalists during the weekly Business Forum at the MediSpa-SM Tuesday morning.
Sales said fabrication of the DOST developed technology is timely since the equipment prevents the production of histamine among fish supplies.
Sales noted that fish shipments are being rejected overseas because of high histamine content.
The immersion freezer is the third of the eight prototypes to be developed by DOST in the next two years. The first two are the vacuum packing machine and bioreactor.
A bioreactor facility is used to process biodegradable waste and convert this into usable farm inputs.
Sales said around local government units (LGUs) in Mindanao have already secured bioreactors for their solid waste management programs.
