ADVOCACY group Interface Development Interventions Inc. (Idis) on Monday launched Lunhaw Award and is allocating P75,000 for its winners.
Idis executive director Mary Ann Fuertes, speaking in Monday's Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City, said the award will recognize individuals, groups, and communities who are practicing more environment-friendly ways of living.
"This award seeks to recognize and honor the initiatives of the ordinary Dabawenyos, who believes in the vision of Green Davao, and thus finds ways to make the vision reality," Fuertes said.
She said they will be giving 15 awards according to three categories. They are individual household for small category, community-based for medium category, and institutions for big category.
Each awardee will take home P5,000 and a trophy. She said their stories on environment preservation will be promoted in the city as green initiatives.
Fuertes also encouraged the people of Davao to join in the award, saying that the recognition is an effective way to get the attention of the public.
She said entries will be based on the environmental benefits, economic benefits, use of renewable energy, replicability, durability and continuity, and innovation in their practices in organic farming and other environment-friendly initiatives.
Deadline for the submission of entries will be in October this year.
Winners will be announced during Davao City's celebration of Organic Day on December 3, 2012.
Organizers are also hoping to sustain "Lunhaw Award" which was launched yesterday.
"We also hope to create a Davao City's Hall of Fame for best practioners who are winners of the award for consecutive years," she said.
Fuertes said Idis partners for the Lunhaw Award are Davao Association of Colleges and Schools, City Agriculturist's Office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office and Davao City Water District. (ALC)
