THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Davao Region posted a total collection of P934.7 million on excise tax with P137 million surpluses during the first semester of 2012.
BIR regional officer-in-charge of Excise Tax Area IV Samson Secretaria, in an interview yesterday, said they have surpassed their target collection for the first two quarters of the year.
The bureau's target goal for the first quarter was P385 million, but it collected a total of P480 million with a surplus of P95 million.
For the second quarter, BIR-Davao collected a total of P454 million in excise tax, which also surpassed its target collection of P412 million.
The official said the increase in collection is attributed to the increase in production of alcoholic beverages in Davao Region. The only beverage plant present in Davao is the San Miguel Corporation, which produced a total of 79 million liters of alcoholic drink for the first semester of the year.
Other excisable products include gold and non metallic products at 2 percent, cigarettes, perfume and jewelry and at 20 percent each.
Secretaria said BIR 11 collected a total of P5.4 million as of June this year from gold-buying and other non-metallic products like cement.
The collection did not only come from Davao Region but also from Coatabato City and Zamboanga City, Secretaria clarified.
