THE Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will conduct an Orientation Seminar for newly-hired city and municipal links of the regions of Davao and Soccsksargen at the Pinnacle Hotel on October 3-12.

The 10-day orientation cum training will be attended by 43 workers who will be assigned in the Set 6 areas of the program in the two regions.

The city/municipal links are expected to implement the program in their respective areas of coverage. They should be able to effectively carry out functions and responsibilities, clarify issues and concerns arising in their community, and able to come up with resolutions for the smooth implementation of the program.

In Davao Region, Pantawid Pamilya has an additional 25,498 target beneficiaries under Set 6. A total of 2,586 households compose the newly-identified areas of Hagonoy and Padada, Davao del Sur. On the other hand, 22,912 households are under the 19 scale-up areas in Davao Region.

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program is a poverty reduction strategy that provides cash grants to extremely poor households to allow the members of the families to meet certain human development goals.

The focus is on building human capital [health, nutrition and education] of children of the poorest families, 0-14 years of age.

This program adopts the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) approach used in Latin American and African countries which has been proven successful as a poverty reduction measure.

At present, the program has a total of 168,624 registered households in Davao Region covering four provinces, six cities, 41 municipalities and 944 barangays. (PR)
