THE 7th Mindanao Franchising Expo opened Friday at the Gaisano Mall of Davao with 25 exhibitors showcasing their products and offering services to prospect franchisees.

Jennelita O. Cariaga, events manager of the organizing Filipino International Franchise Association (Fifa), said 80 percent of the participating companies are new in Davao and seeking expansion through franchising business. These companies came all the way from Metro Manila, Cebu City, Cagayan de Oro City and Bacolod City.

"The purpose of this Expo is to gather possible franchisees from Davao and also to get clients from Davao" Cariaga said, adding that these companies want to gain partners from the city to do business.

She said the situation of franchising in the country is booming, considering that more Filipinos have signified interest to franchise a business, as this will require them less efforts to set up an enterprise.

"They want their own business. With the franchise, they will only have to implement the plans of the company," Cariaga said.

According to Cariaga, many companies that are not yet present in the city wanted to penetrate the market, which only shows that there's a growing demand of Dabawenyos venturing into franchise.

For the three-day event, Fifa is expecting more than 10 clients to close deals with the participating companies. Two years ago, at least 98 percent of the participants brought home clients through the expo of 40 exhibitors.

Cariaga said around 7,000 visitors attended the franchising expo in Davao two years ago. This year's edition is expected to attract more visitors and may even surpass the number of clients it gathered in the previous expo.

Nedjet Chua Capuno, the association's marketing officer, said Fifa is one of the country's three franchising associations in the country accredited by Department of Trade and Industry.

He said about 450 firms are members of the Fifa nationwide.

Among the firms participating in the 7th Mindanao Franchising Expo are Blugre Coffee, Botoy;s Litson Manok, BPI Globe Banko, Bubi Trampoline, Concept Specialist, Davao Barrio Bistro, Figaro Coffee Company, Julies Bakeshop, Livingwater, Magis Siomai Station, Myface 'N Mynails Salon, and Nice Day Car Wash.

Other exhibitors include North Zen Basic Spaces, O'Hair Salon, Panadero Bakeshop, PLDT SME Nation, Precious Herbal Pillow, Premium Graphics Asia Center, RK Franchise Consultancy, Seaoil Philippines, Shao-mai Dimsum, Skin & Body Center by Zen Institute, Sun Life of Canada Philippines Inc., Transfer IT Prints, and Zerona Slimming Center and Aesthetics.

Joanne Siy, vice president for operations and franchise of Blugre, said their participation to the franchising expo is more about creating awareness that Blugre is up for franchise.
