A PROVINCE-based furniture maker has expanded its business with new products using sustainable materials, particularly bamboo, to capture buyers from Manila and abroad.
"I started my wood furniture business eight years ago. But with the total log ban (affecting the wood supply), we have also developed products using bamboo," said Edwin Omaña, manager of Anacondahz Furniture.
Omaña said his company is assisting in the process of introducing furniture made from bamboo, one of the most sustainable resources in the Bicol region, by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
His furniture pieces and accessories also rely on the use of other indigenous materials such rattan, abaca and into vine for stylish console tables, panel doors, dividers, candle holders and lamps.
Omaña hopes that these unique products will appeal to institutional buyers as well as consumers.
Apart from employing new product development strategies, his firm intends to participate in local trade fairs to gain more buyers here and abroad.
