A KOREAN restaurant that is expected to fill in the gap in the market opened its first outlet outside of Luzon, at SM Lanang Premier in Davao City.

Bulgogi Brothers, which offers authentic Korean dishes, is now on its dry run and is set to officially open on Wednesday.

The 160-square meter casual dining restaurant at SM Lanang is Bulgogi's 5th store in the country and the first in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Other Bulgogi outlets are located at Greenbelt 5 in Makati City, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City, Alabang Town Center in Muntinlupa City and Harbor Point at Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

"Davao City is really progressing and this is a premier mall. We are taking advantage of several facilities offered by this mall," Amy O. Palisoc, vice president for corporate planning of The Bistro Group, which operates Bulgogi in the Philippines, along with 12 other foreign and local brands, including Friday's, Italianni's and Crazy Garlic, which will also open soon at SM Lanang.

She was apparently referring to SMX Convention Center located at third level of the mall and the Park Inn by Radisson situated within the SM Lanang complex.

The restaurant's location at the second level of the mall, fronting the Fountain Court, is also "very strategic."

"With the bridgeway connecting the hotel to the mall, we are looking at its guests as our target market, kase dito talaga ang daan nila sa restaurant. Same is true with those attending conventions, meetings and events at SMX Convention Center," Palisoc said.

She also expressed optimism that with Bulgogi's wide array of products, all authentic Korean dishes, the growing market in Davao, the meticulous diners included, are up for unique authentic dining experience at the restaurant.

She assured to keep up with the image that the restaurant is known for: good food, fast and quality service.

"We re satifified with what we saw here. We are very optimistic and ecstatic. Meron talagang market," Palisoc told Sun.Star in an interview.

In less than two years after Bistro Group brought in Bulgogi Brothers in the Philippines, it has become a favorite dining place for Filipinos who have passion for Korean food.

"Bulgogi's first international branch opened at Greenbelt 5 in 2011. Since then, we have become a favorite among diners who are Koren food enthusiasts," Palisoc said.

"There is no way that Dabawenyo diners won't do the same," she added.
For one, she said, their primarily consideration before bringing in international brand in the country, "is for it to be acceptable to the Filipino market."

"We want it to be talagang kakagatin ng Pinoy. In the case of Bulgogi, its one of the best in Korea proven by its 38 stores scattered all over South Korea. It's authentic," Palisoc said.

An authentic dining experience at Bulgogi begins with complimentary side dishes, such as pickled vwgetables, corn, sweet potatoes and the quintessential Kimchi. A pot of complementary tea is also served. Then diners can feast on assorted Bulgogi that literally means "fire meat" in Korea.

"Bulgogi Brothers has proven that it is more than just good food as it is known for in Korea," Jean Paul Manuud, Bistro Group chief operating officer, said. Guests will enjoy the exceptional, authentic Korean food, cozy and charming ambience as well as the special quality of service that is akin to Bistro."
