S&R Davao exceeds target membership

S&R Membership Shopping has already exceeded its target membership for its outlet in Davao City, even before the store's formal opening yesterday.

Kelly Ricks, S&R head of operations, said that as of yesterday, they have enlisted more than 10,000 members from all over Mindanao and they are expecting the figure to double in the next 30 days.

"We exceeded our target. We set goals and we have a good membership drive. A lot of people are out in the field telling potential customers about being a member and yes we came back and did very well. We anticipate the membership to continue to grow. Typically our membership can almost double in the next 30 days," he said in an interview at the sidelines of yesterday's grand opening of S&R Davao in Matina, its first in Mindanao.

He said they have set "no limit" in terms of membership which he said will continue "to grow and grow" every year, based on their experience in other S&R outlets nationwide.

"(S&R Davao) is our Lucky 7th store," he said, adding that three more outlets are being constructed in Luzon areas.

"Because our membership has continued to grow and grow, we continue to pen more S&R outlets in the Philippines," he said.

In Mindanao, they are eyeing Cagayan de Oro as their next area for expansion. "But not so soon yet," he said.

S&R is a membership shopping club modeled after the warehouse membership shopping chains in the United States. At present, it has branches at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, Congressional in Quezon City, Alabang in Muntinlupa City, Aseana in Baclaran, Cebu, and Pampanga.

"Davao is a city with good reputation. Based on our study, the people here have a good taste on anything that they buy," Ricks said. "And this is a large city and the market is growing."

"We are really very excited here. Looking at the market response here, there is no way we can't replicate the success of S&R stores in other areas in the country," he said, referring to a big number of shoppers who trooped to the store yesterday.

S&R outlet in the city is one among the biggest, in terms of size, in the country, which is built with US standards.

"This is bigger compared to our outlets in Metro Manila, but almost of the same size with Pampanga and Cebu," he said.

He said this goes along with what S&R is all about -- world-class merchandise, great value offers, specialty services and exciting membership privileges.

Ricks said newly-hired managers and supervisors of their Davao store have undergone trainings in Manila as they put premium on customer satisfaction.

"We guarantee satisfaction among our customers," he said, adding that at present, the store has employed more than 100 workers, including managers and supervisors, basically to attend to the needs of shopper-members.

"More than 90 percent of our employees are from the city," he said.

Based on a briefer, S&R's core concept is to deliver to members-shoppers significant value for their money through an efficient and effective retailing system anchored on aggressive buying, low-cost distribution, and streamlined operations.

There are two ways to become a member, through business membership, which is open to owner or manager of licensed business, and the gold membership, which can be availed by individuals aged 18 years and above.

Each member has the following benefits and perks:
* First picks of imported name-brand merchandise;
* Exclusive deals and discounts;
* Unmatched everyday savings;
* Access to specialty services;
* Shopping priveleges at all S&R branches.

S&R offers a wide array of local and imported merchandise, such as baked goods, grocery items, wellness and beauty products, home furnishings, and tire services exclusive to members.

S&R boasts of its "Everyday Fresh Section" that carries local and imported fresh chilled meat products, such as Australian and New Zealand beef, local pork and poultry that are sourced from only one accredited supplier to prevent cross contamination which usually happens when dealing with multiple suppliers. This section also offers fruits and vegetables that are garden-fresh quality produce delivered daily from the country's premier growing regions.

Its "Food Service Station" also offers piping hot New York style pizzas, calzones, churros, hotdogs, cheeseburgers, blue bunny ice creams, clam chowder, rotisserie chicken rice and even coffee.
