A 30-MAN inspection team representing different national agencies will be arriving in Davao City Wednesday to conduct a three-day ocular inspection in line with the city's bid to host the inisterial meetings during the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (Apec), a tourism official said.
"They will be inspecting the six shortlisted hotels, SMX Convention Center, and some attractions that will be included in their itinerary. They will be here from August 21 to 24," Davao City Tourism Office (CTO) officer-in-charge Lisette Marques told reporters.
The inspection team will be coming from national agencies like the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Tourism, and number of security agencies.
Davao City will be the last destination in the series of ocular inspections in different venues in the Philippines like Cebu and Boracay. This will also be the longest venue inspection.
"CTO will be holding a luncheon meeting with them and we will be presenting the best of Davao," Marques said. She added that the team will also be visiting the Public Safety and Security Command Center for them to see the city's capability in terms of security.
Marques hopes they will be able to host more than one meeting during the Apec 2015. The conference will help boost the city's tourism having as much as 2000 and as low as 500 participants during the meetings.
This may be the biggest international event the city will ever host once the bid has been accepted. The last big international event held in the city is the 2006 Asean Tourism Forum.
It can be recalled that Davao City submitted a bid letter and other proposals last March 30 to the Apec-National Organizing Committee (Apec-NOC).
Metro Manila, Tagaytay, Clark, Subic, Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Boracay also bidded to host the international conference.
