DABAWENYOS have nothing to worry over hoarding of rice as there has been no report of such case in Davao city.
"As of now, there's no report or a recorded case of rice hoarding here in Davao City based on the reports by our investigators and enforcers," said National Food Authority (NFA) acting assistant provincial manager Maria Elaine Respecia in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao.
She also said that the public should not panic on reports about rice shortage. She insisted that during lean months, there is a low inventory of rice sacks in the warehouses.
Respecia said they have reserved stocks of rice for months like these throughout the year.
The NFA maintains a volume of 270,000 sacks of rice and as of now their warehouse is storing 350,000 sacks of rice.
They are also expecting this will increase once the rice harvest in the provinces of Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, and Cotabato starts this month until December.
The price for local NFA rice remains at P33 while imported NFA rice remains at P27. (RJL)
