THE Davao Inventors Association (DIA) is pushing for the passage of an ordinance that will boost local technology and livelihood.
DIA executive vice president Virgilio M. Sangutan said that they are pushing for the creation of the Davao Research and Innovation Livelihood Training Center and are presently in the process of crafting the proposed ordinance.
"The main purpose of this is to improve the research and development of new technologies and inventions, commercializing local technology, and to provide livelihood and job creation," he said.
Sangutan said they will be targeting fresh graduates, out-of-school youths, and the unemployed in giving them technical training and to encourage them to venture into business.
"Through this, we want to change the mindset of the public that they have to graduate then work. We want to encourage and train them to have livelihood skills so they can have create their own livelihood or business if they couldn't land a job," he adds.
Other groups supporting the proposed ordinance are the Davao Region Industry and Emerging Technologies Research and Development Consortium, and the academe.
They hope the ordinance will be completed and approve before the Regional Inventors Contest and Exhibit that will be held on November 22 to 24.
