AN INTER-REGIONAL tour package that will feature Mindanao's tourist destinations was officially launched last September 18 at the Grand Regal Hotel.
Tagged as Destination Mindanaw, the package tour will bring tourists to destinations in Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao.
In October, four destinations -- Lake Sebu, South Cotabato; Mati, Davao Oriental, Sarangani and General Santos City, and Surigao -- will be launched.
"These will all be weekend trips. We are also looking into Samal, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro, Capatagan, and Davao City. We will be taking trips to these places to conduct a familiarization. We hope to have ten destinations by the end of this year and hopefully this will grow to 20 destinations in the future," said Davao Metro Shuttle Inc. executive vice president Ciara Isabelle Uy.
Uy added that the package is worth P3,900 and it will be a two day, one night tour and is inclusive of meal, accommodation, tour, and a tour guide. They have also partnered with the Bank of the Philippine Islands wherein customers can pay in an installment basis with zero percent interest.
In a press statement, Asianet Travel and Tours and Davao Metro Shuttle owner Alma Uy said that they have devoted four of their coaster shuttles for the destinations.
The packaged tours will commence on October 5 with the first trip in Surigao del Sur. Succeeding trips that have been set on October are Sarangani and General Santos City (October 12-13), Lake Sebu (Oct. 19-20), and Mati (Oct. 26-27).
"We are surely but slowly revealing our finest secrets. This is also the path we would like for people to discover the bigger picture of Mindanao today," said Department of Tourism (DOT) in Davao Region regional director Art Boncato, Jr.
He added that the DOT have already signify to make Mindanao as a mainstream destination in Destination Philippines. This will mean that Mindanao will have a greater visibility to tourists.
For his part Davao Metro Shuttle, Inc. president and chief executive officer De Carlo L. Uy said: "Mindanao like any other places have a lot to offer. Unfortunately Mindanao has been a victim of wrong branding. I believe Destination Mindanao will help boost Mindanao as a tourist destination not only here in the Philippines but internationally as well."
The project is a public-private partnership between Mindanao tourism regional offices, Mindanao Development Authority, Asianet Travel and Tours, and Davao Metro Shuttle.
