A SURVEY conducted by leading online job search engine JobStreet.com showed that Dabawenyos choose the reputation of the company over salary packages when looking for a job.
JobStreet.com commissioned Nielsen to conduct the survey in the second quarter of this year.
"Jobseekers here in Davao tend to look at the reputation of the company because they see it as synonymous with stability," said JobStreet.com sales director Philip A. Gioca during the 2nd Davao Jobstreet.com Career Fair press conference at the La Toscana Italian Bar and Restaurant yesterday.
Jobstreet.com senior marketing specialist Maricar Olaivar Estrabo said that Davao City has somehow a unique situation over the other cities where the same survey was conducted.
"In Manila, Laguna, Cebu, and Pampanga they choose salary or benefits over the reputation," said Estrabo.
Aside from the reputation of the company, Dabawenyos ranked the suitability of the position to their skills or level as second and salary given as third when it comes to choosing the job they want.
Eileen G. Camarillo, JobStreet.com marketing services and communication manager, said that the survey also showed that junior executive (one to four year experience), fresh graduate or entry level, and senior executive positions are the top three most needed job positions in Davao while business and management, nursing, and computer/information technology (IT) topped the most needed job specializations in the city.
She added that the top ten industries currently hiring in Davao are: general services, sales and marketing, finance and accounting, engineering and admin/human resource, building construction, manufacturing, computer and IT, healthcare, education, and arts and media.
Of the estimated 150,000 Davao jobseekers in their database, most of them hold degrees in business, nursing, computer and IT while specializations of these jobseekers are usually on healthcare, customer service, and clerical.
JobStreet.com.ph is also present in Vietnam, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Japan. Here in the Philippines, they have some 20,000 companies advertising more than 90,000 jobs a day and being viewed by some 4.7 million Filipino users.
