Davao entrepreneur wins prestigious Agora Award
DAVAO entrepreneur Dennis Uy, president and chief executive officer Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc., received the prestigious Agora Award for Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship-Large Scale that honors business and marketing excellence.
Uy was recognized for "growing a provincial-based business into a nationally successful brand, for embodying the Filipino's enterprising spirit, for persevering despite the odds, and for being an indispensable partner of the Filipino."
Uy and other Filipino companies and marketing professionals were awarded in the 34th Agora Awards on October 9 at the Manila Peninsula, Makati City. Winners in this year's various categories include GMA Kapuso Foundation, Posh Nails, and Alaska Milk Corp.
Since its inception in 1979, the prestigious Agora Awards has honored many distinguished individuals and companies who have made significant achievements in the marketing profession.
The Agora Awards is the beacon of Filipino marketing excellence that spotlights admirable qualities of versatility, innovativeness and ingenuity. Through the Agora, the Filipino is hailed as a world-class marketer endowed with a proven flair of out-of-the-box thinking and trailblazing achievements. Because of the Agora, marketing excellence shines through with a distinctively Filipino touch.
Uy was recognized for growing Phoenix Petroleum from a small, provincial-based business into the leading independent oil company in the country -- from Top 570th to Top 53rd Corporation in five years, from five stations to 350 nationwide in less than eight years.
From the start, Uy used creative branding and marketing strategy to grow his business.
"When I started Phoenix, I never thought we would accomplish what we have over the years. But I guess if you work hard, remain committed, and have faith in your convictions, anything is possible," Uy said after receiving the award.
Last March, Uy was also awarded by the City of Davao the prestigious Datu Bago award for his achievements in entrepreneurship and service to the community. (PR)
