THE Davao City Council committee on transportation and communication is mulling for the establishment of a traffic bulletin that will guide motorists on Davao City's traffic situation and road condition.
Councilor Leonardo R. Avila III, who was a guest in Monday's edition of Davao Press Club's Kapehan sa Dabaw, said they are at present drafting the proposal, which will be presented to the City Council next year.
"What happens is if there are traffic accidents, it will cause congestion or a pile up and there is a need to inform the public of the situation and to provide alternative routes," he said.
Avila said they are coordinating with the Kapinsanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, Public Safety and Security Command Center, 911, Traffic Management Center, and other concerned agencies in the drafting of the proposal.
"We will be utilizing all forms of communication for information. We already have initial talks with some media establishments and they have expressed their interests," he said.
They are also eyeing the possibility of turning the bulletin into an application for smartphones and tablets like Department of Science and Technology's Project Noah application.
"These are very important information for motorists who are in a hurry. With the application they can just make a few taps on the screen (of their devices) and find out where there are traffic congestion and get an alternate route," Avilla said, adding they are planning to tap computer and telecommunication companies to help develop the app.
He said the project will not entail the city to spend a lot of money because they will only be utilizing special resources and the private sector, especially the media.
He expressed hope that the traffic bulletin will be implemented next year.
"There is really a need for this to identify where traffic congestions are with or without accidents," he said.
