A CULTURAL village on Mt. Apo will be opened next year, a tourism official said.

Department of Tourism in Davao Region Director Arturo P. Boncato Jr. told reporters on Friday that the Tibolo Cultural Village is a community-based tourism undertaking located at the foot of Mt. Apo, the country's highest peak.

"Bagobo Tagabawa tribe donated the land for the cultural village while the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza) funded the P10 million structures," he said, adding that the village is also equipped with a restaurant and accommodation for tourists.

He said the accommodation structure will have some 20 beds while tourists can experience bamboo cooked food at the restaurant.

"Tourists coming here will be able to experience the lifestyle of the community since those who will be accommodating and assisting them are the locals themselves," Boncato said.

Currently, they are conducting community preparations like converging with the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) who is training locals to become eco-guides.

Aside from the cultural village, the tourism regional office also stepped up its efforts to boost the promotion of the region as a venue for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (Mice) next year.

"In the first quarter of 2014 under the Let's Meet in Davao program, we will be having a road show in Manila for corporate meeting planners and associations to consider Davao as a venue for Mice," Boncato said.

They are also eyeing for the improvement of the incentive schemes for Mice organizers and events by looking into new or additional strategic partners to help them campaign for Davao City.

"We will also be using the Big Davao Fun Sale as a vehicle for associations or groups to hold their Mice events here between March and April so when the delegates are here they are able to enjoy the city wide sale in the major malls," Boncato said.
