THE regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Davao (DPWH 11) has programmed P50 million for the construction and improvement on flood mitigation and drainage system in Davao City this year.

DPWH 11 public information officer Jose Dennis Y. Flores, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao on Tuesday, said the projects will be implemented by DPWH 11 and the Davao City 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO).

The projects that will be implemented by the regional office will be the P10-million improvement and completion of the main drain in Barangay 31 and 37-D and the P20-million improvement and completion of the main drain at Barangay 22 and 23-C on Quezon blvd.

The project that will be implemented by the Davao City 2nd DEO is the P20 million construction of flood control at Barangay Lubugan, Toril.

Flores said the drainage system, aside from preventing and mitigating floods, will also prevent the destruction of roads from floods.

Flores said the projects have yet to be implemented and are still in the process of evaluation of design in the central office. Once it is approved, it will be bidded out.

He said the projects, which DPWH considered as small projects, will only take 30 to 60 days to complete.

"As long as there are no problems that will be encountered like problems with the right of way or there are no obstructions from communication and electrical posts or tubes of the DCWD," Flores said.

They expect the projects to begin this year.
