Big Davao Fun Sale kicks off this week

THE Big Davao Fun Sale, the first month-long city-wide sale in the Philippines, is set to kick-off this week, offering discounts to different set of products every week.

The Big Davao Fun Sale 2014 is the first city-wide shopping sale in the country slated on March 14 to April 14 this year.

The month-long event is patterned from international city-wide sales, like the Great Singapore Sale and the Dubai Shopping Festival.

DOT Assistant Secretary and DOT-Davao Director Arturo Boncato Jr., in a statement, said this is DOT's response to the city's growth in the retail industry.

The event is aimed to establish Davao City as a unique, fun, and preferred shopping and dining destination in the country; to develop a strong shopping and dining segment among travelers to Davao; and to improve the image of Davao City as a thriving destination for business and investment.

Different sets of products that will be on sale every week during the month-long event will be the general sale, on March 16 to 23 will be on health and beauty, on March 24 to 30 will be on electronics and gadgets, on March 31 to April 6 will be on home and travel, and on April 7 to 16 will be on active lifestyle and fashion while dining, crafts, and fruits and flowers will be on sale during the duration of the event.

During the Big Davao Fun Sale launch at the Marco Polo Hotel, Jader Regis, assistant vice president for marketing of NCCC Mall and president of Retail Association of Davao, said discounts can go as much as 80 percent.

The event will also feature a Passport System that will give consumers and tourists a chance to win raffle prizes and freebies during the month long event.

The DOT in Davao Region said the Passport System is the marketing tool of the Big Davao Fun Sale and will be available in their booths at all participating malls and at the airport.

The passport will contain the map of the participating malls. For every mall visited, the shopper's passport will be stamped. Once the shopper's passport bears the stamp of all participating malls, they may drop it at DOT booths at any of the participating malls and get a chance to win raffle prizes and avail of a Big Davao Fun Sale shirt.

To avail of the passport, tourists arriving at the Davao International Airport can get their passports by presenting their boarding pass at the DOT booth in the airport.

The rest of the public can join by simple presenting a single or accumulated receipt of P500 at any DOT booth however the passport may only be availed on the same date as the receipt.

The Restaurants Association Davao Inc., (RADI) will also spearhead a food festival during the event and will be participated by 100 establishments.

Participating restaurants will have an indentifier for shoppers and tourists to know if they are participating.

The month-long event will also feature weekend parties that will be hosted by the participating malls.

Participating malls of the month-long event are: Abreeza Mall, NCCC Mall of Davao, SM Lanang Premier, Gaisano Mall of Davao, Robinsons, Gaisano Mall of Toril, and SM City Davao.

The Big Davao Fun Sale is spearheaded by the participating malls, in cooperation with the DOT 11, the City Government of Davao, and Philippine Retailers Association while Cebu Pacific is the official airline partner.
