P1.02-B set aside for MRDP projects-A A +A

THE Mindanao Rural Development Program-Regional Program Coordinating Office in Davao Region (MRDP-RPCO 11) said around P1.02 billion has been allocated for MRDP projects in the region this year.
MRDP-RPCO 11 deputy coordinator Miguela E. Edquila, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said P783 million has been programmed for Rural Infrastructure (RI), P210 million for Community Fund for Agricultural Development (CFAD), and P28 million for Natural Resources Management (NRM).
"RI includes the construction of farm-to-market roads, potable water supply, bridges, and communal irrigation projects or systems," she said. There are 66 RI subprojects set for Davao region and around P593 million has been released.
Edquila said they have released already P203 million of the P210 million of CFAD budget. She said 466 CFAD subprojects have already been completed, 131 are still ongoing, while 52 are yet to be implemented.
She said 30,043 households are benefitting from the CFAD. According to the MRDP, CFAD "aims to give disadvantaged and vulnerable sectors in Mindanao opportunities for increased income from agriculture and fishery production, including allied value-adding activities, that make use of appropriate and sustainable technologies preferred and selected by the target groups and aims to make them capable of handling projects basic to their development.
Edquila said all the money for NRM has already been released for the 15 subprojects in the program.
According to the MRDP, NRM "aims to conserve coastal resources and marine biodiversity through co-management of critical marine habitats, better resources management practices and the introduction of improved, upstream land management practices that would stop land degradation and enhance the integration of coastal ecosystem.
For the whole of MRDP, there are a total of P4.514 billion worth of RI subprojects wherein P2.510 billion are already completed and P2.004 billion are still ongoing.
In the CFAD, there is a total of 3,846 subprojects amounting to P1.285 billion. Around P948.14 million worth projects have already been completed, P252.68 million are still on-going, and P84.22 million are for implementation. There are a total of 175,666 beneficiaries in the CFAD.
In the NRM, there are around P167,93 million worth of 90 subprojects wherein P146.76 million are completed while P21.16 million are on-going.
The MRDP 2 is implemented under the Department of Agriculture (DA) and jointly funded by the World Bank (WB), the national government, and the local government units (LGUs).
The program "seeks to further improve rural incomes and achieve food security through agri-fisheries infrastructure, livelihood enterprise, and biodiversity conservation projects.
