THE Department Agriculture-Davao (DA 11) allocated a total of P303 million for their Typhoon Pablo Intervention program, an official said.

DA 11 officer-in-charge assistant regional director Maria Febe T. Orbe said the budget will be spent for crops, fisheries, and support services.

Some P264 million will go to crops, P35 million to fisheries, and P4 million for support services.

Under rehabilitation program for crops, P34 million will go to banana, P33 million to corn, P156 million to coconut, P31 million to rice, and P10 million to chili. The budget will be allocated for the procurement of fertilizers, seedlings, and planting materials.

"Most of the budget for the crops will go to the coconut industry because it is the main source of income of many farmers who were affected by Typhoon Pablo in 2012, particularly those in Davao Oriental," Orbe said.

The budget for the fisheries will be channeled through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Davao Region. It will be utilized for purchasing and providing fishing gears to fishermen.

Orbe said the budget will not include the fingerlings because BFAR 11 still has sufficient fingerlings for the aquaculturists and fishermen.

In terms of provincial allocation, Davao Oriental will receive some P187.353 million of the P303-million allocation while Compostela Valley will be receiving some P120.506 million.

Orbe also said that the agency is encouraging farmers to embark on intercropping method. For instance, cacao farms will be planted along with vegetables to increase income.
