TWO Japanese executives will meet with the Federation of Cooperatives in Mindanao (Fedco) to discuss on the exportation of mangoes and additional bananas in Japan.

Ireneo D. Dalayon, Fedco chief executive officer, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said the two Japanese executives, who are from Marunaka, a buyer of bananas from Fedco since 2001, will be arriving on April 25 to discuss on possibly starting to import mangoes and increasing the volume of bananas they are importing.

"They will also be negotiating on increasing their buying price," Dalayon said.

He explained that Japanese buyers are threatened that they will lose suppliers from the Philippines because of the much bigger buying price of China, thus they intend to increase their buying price.

"Japan is offering $7 per box while China is offering $10 ber box," Dalayon said.

He also said they will begin looking into the mango productions of the cooperatives of Fedco to see which one has the best quality for Japan.

Dalayon said, currently, they are not yet supplying mangoes to the company. He said they are currently supplying 6000 boxes of highland bananas a week to Marunaka.

He said Japanese buyers like to import bananas from the Philippines because of the proximity.
