THE Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) said an Asean Desk will be set up at the chamber's Small and Medium Enterprises Development Center (Smed) as an initiative to prepare its members and local SMEs for the upcoming 2015 Asean Economic Convergence (AEC).

DCCCII acting executive director Mary Antonette Doromal, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao on Tuesday, said the Asean Desk is a help desk that focuses on the needs of the members and other businesses in terms of readiness and preparation for the Asean integration.

Doromal said seminars, lectures, and trainings by experts on export processing during AEC and to know what other needs to be done in preparation for the AEC are some of the topics that will be discussed with interested businessmen.

DCCCII president Antonio T. dela Cruz said this is in line with the chamber's commitment to assist and help its members and update them on the trends and needs in the Asean market and AEC 2015.

In terms of readiness, Dela Cruz said most of the members are somehow ready for the AEC 2015, particularly the services and export sectors.

He said, for instance, the banana exporters are ready to compete in exporting bananas in Asean due to their experience in exporting bananas in a global scale.

Dela Cruz also said the creation of the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area also helped the local businesses to prepare for the integration.
